Customer Lifecycle: Definition, Meaning & Guide for Indian Businesses
The customer lifecycle is the full journey: stranger → lead → MQL → SQL → customer → loyal customer → advocate. Each stage has different needs and channels.
What is Customer Lifecycle?
The customer lifecycle is everything that happens between the first time a person hears your name and the day they recommend you to someone else. The classic stages are Awareness (saw your ad / read your blog), Consideration (signed up for a demo), Decision (became a customer), Retention (renewed, expanded), Advocacy (referred a friend, posted a review). For Indian SMBs the highest-leverage stage is usually Retention — it costs 5-7x more to acquire a customer than to retain one. A CRM tracks customers across the full lifecycle so a marketing email, sales call and support ticket all see the same history.
