Form 16A: Definition, Meaning & Guide for Indian Businesses
Form 16A is the TDS certificate for income other than salary — interest, rent, professional fees, contractor payments. Issued quarterly by the deductor.
What is Form 16A?
Form 16A is issued by anyone who deducts TDS on payments other than salary (Sections 194A, 194C, 194I, 194J etc.). It shows the gross payment, TDS deducted, deposited and certificate of deposit. Must be issued within 15 days of the due date for TDS quarterly return. Recipients use Form 16A to file ITR and claim TDS credit against tax liability. Differs from Form 16 (salary TDS) which is annual. Verify Form 16A against Form 26AS to ensure the deductor actually deposited the TDS.
