FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Any business handling food in India must register or get a licence based on turnover and scale. State Licence (turnover ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore) — restaurants, mid-sized food manufacturers, distributors. Central Licence (turnover > ₹20 crore or operations across multiple states or imports) — large food companies. Apply at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Each tier has different fee, document and renewal requirements. Display your FSSAI number on every food package, menu and invoice — non-display attracts penalties.
