Sales Pipeline: Definition, Meaning & Guide for Indian Businesses

A sales pipeline is the visual sequence of stages every deal moves through — from new lead to closed-won or closed-lost. Common stages: Lead, Qualified, Proposal, Negotiation, Won, Lost.

What is Sales Pipeline?

A sales pipeline is a Kanban-style view of every active deal organised by stage. It answers two questions instantly: which deals will close this month, and where are deals getting stuck. The default stages most Indian B2B SMBs use are Lead (raw inquiry), Qualified (we confirmed budget and need), Proposal Sent, Negotiation, Won, Lost. Each stage has an expected conversion rate so the pipeline value (sum of deal values weighted by stage probability) is your forecast. The pipeline is also a coaching tool: if every salesperson stalls at Negotiation, the problem is pricing or objection handling, not the leads.
